I do recognize Villalobos and perhaps I can recall Thomas Melchoir. Unfortunately I can't seem to hit on a "main guy" which represents the style of music I like. That's the kind of music I'm looking for. What you describe about it being mostly stale, but when it hits it hits, is exactly the experience I remember. A huge scene though.Įdit: also John Tejada still plays regularly here in LAĭamn, you sure know your stuff. It just is stale far more than it hits I think. I find a lot of this boring personally, but when it hits it can be great. Newer names like Barac have been making waves for a while now too. Rharesh, Rhadoo, and Petre Inspirescu are the god fathers. Saw him recently and it was amazing.įinally of course is the Romanian sound, which took the Villalobos/Perlon sound in a new direction, for better or worse. Not sure the minimal moniker really fits here, though the play a lot of the same parties as all the other here, you can be the judge.ĭaniel Bell is an old school Detroit guy that straddles Robert Hood style minimal and the perlon stuff. Traffic records out of France is a cool new one that often gets lumped in with that scene too. DJ Koolt is the don here, new names like are making waves more recently. Uruguay has a big scene like the berlin new school centered around the club Phonoteque. Fumiya Tanaka holds down the wonky psychedelic Perlon side whereas DJ Masda is more in line with the berlin new school. Check out cabaret records for more housey minimal. In Japan you have lots of people following a similar trajectory. They’ll play a $1 forgotten minimal acid track from the lye 90s/early 2000s and it’ll become a $70+ record over night. This stuff is cool, draws a lot from the perlon stuff but also old acid, electro, and early tech house before it got super commercial.īoth these scenes are low on promotion, big on vinyl only DJing and digging deep. Then there is new school berlin minimal by people like Binh, Evan Baggs, Nicolas Lutz. There’s the old school guys centered around labels like Perlon still going strong like villalobos, zip, Sammy dee, Thomas Melchior etc. I don’t know much about the melodic or trancey stuff but here’s a rundown as I see it for current trends in minimal broadly

Marea (We've Lost Dancing) - Fred Again.Īnybody here have any suggestions or comments on "minimal techno"? Silverlake Pills (Gui Boratto Remix) - Adam Freeland Model 1601 (Fairmont Remix) - Marc Romboy I have a few more I could add, but I think that would distort what I'm looking for even moreĮDIT: Since many people are replying, I'll add a few other songs which may differ a bit, but keep some resemblance to what I like: The Sky Was Pink (James Holden Remix) - Nathan Fake New World (Robert Babicz Remix) - Dan Corco In any case, I'm just going to a list a few of the songs I loved, to see if anyone can tell me what proper genre they belong to (is it minimal tech or minimal house of progressive tech or melodic house? There's too many labels) and where I could go to find similar songs. I understand that times change, but the electronic music I hear now seems to be of a lower quality than what I listened to. Beatport used to be excellent, now it's average at best. But now searching for songs is much harder. A friend came to visit from back in the day and showed me a few new songs, which were quite good. I used to listen to a lot of minimal tech/melodic house/progressive minimal tech and the like back in college. CD11-14 Inside U (Feat.I don't know if this belongs here.CD11-12 Ask Yourself (2010 Jochem Paap Mix).CD10-7 Alpha Wave (Plastikman's Acid House Remix Edit).CD10-6 Do Da Doo (Plastikman's Acid House Remix).CD10-5 Into The Nature (Plastikman Remix).CD10-3 Rock 2 House (Plastikman's Acid House Remix).CD10-2 Don't Laugh (Richie Hawtin Remix).Would make an ideal Christmas present.īox has signs of yellowing / aging to rear.
